A New Family Member

Today my Dad bought a new pickup. They needed to drop something at our house anyway, so he showed off the new toy but we got more than we bargained for. When Preston popped the hood (because that's just what our guys do when checking out a vehicle), he found a small kitten on top of the engine cover. We were all stunned that the kitten had probably been there all day, scared to death. Mom and Dad were heading to the lake house, and we have two little girls who love cats, so it was decided we should keep the kitten, at least for a day or so. That evening, Jenna held the scared kitten for over an hour before we decided to put the kitten outside to potty (we had nothing for a kitten). Well, although we thought we had put the kitten in a safe place, the kitten apparently wanted to escape so when we went back outside to get her, she was gone. The girls were stunned; they couldn't believe it and neither could we. We looked twice with flashlights all over our yard and our neighbor's and couldn't find her. We decided the kitty wanted to be wild, and put Jenna to bed. She had been good about it until she headed for bed when she said "but I loved her to the moon and back" I felt terrible, but was so relieved. We had dodged a bullet.
The next morning we promised Jenna we would look one more time for wild kitty, not thinking we would find her. We searched and searched to no avail. Finally we gave up and Preston went to clean out the garden. A few minutes later Jenna comes inside saying "You're not going to believe it, mom. You're just not going to believe it! Daddy hears kitty!" She was under our deck crying. Kitty was back and there was no turning back. "Split" is now part of the LaDuke family!
